Songs for the first day back at school. Asa's "Be My Man"

This afternoon I needed something to lift me from the post-first-day-back-of-term-blah.

Asa's 'Be My Man' does the job nicely. Thanks Asa, you and your song are awesomesauce.

More things that are finished

Finished!
Second project for the exhibition - done and dusted! I'm a bit chuffed with how these turned out, even if I do say so myself (And I do. Say so. Myself.)

Big props to Michelle for giving me the idea in the first place, to Spotlight for having the perfect tea towels, to me for finding the last four perfect tea towels at Spotlight and to both mum and dad for getting in on the ironing action.

And, just to prove that there was some sunshine before the rain set in this afternoon, here's a photo of some pretty spring blooms from the garden at mum and dad's place.

Spring sprung

Things that are finished

First project - done!
I finally finished my first project for the Mad Hatter's Tea Party exhibition next month. I'm really pleased with how it turned out. I was waiting for the mini pegs to arrive in the post from Kikki K to complete it (and shall I just gloss over my Kikki K addiction - that stuff is like crack to stationery nerds like myself). The courier got to see me in my pajamas this morning when he delivered the package. I don't think he was terribly impressed. And he wasn't young and hot, so I don't care. Is that bad? That's bad.

Alice and co.

These guys are part of my second project for the exhibition. I've got plans for them *rubs hands together*

Mwahahahahaa *evil laugh*

Okay. They aren't evil plans, but they do involve an iron. And if it works like I hope it will, then I will definitely do the evil cackle to myself afterwards.

Making some progress

Finished painting
I'm still slogging away at my two projects for the exhibition in October. My frames are all done now and aside from a little staple gun drama (don't worry, I didn't hurt myself, it's kinda hard to do that when a staple gun won't staple) it's all going to plan (mwahahaaha). A very big thank you to Allana who came to my rescue and let me borrow her staple gun - you are a lifesaver! My photos are printed and all I have to do is wait for a little package to arrive in the post so I can finish these pieces off.

I have to say I've really enjoyed these school holidays. It has been great to do something creative and find an outlet for that part of my brain. Between preparing for the exhibition and the market photography I'm feeling bits of my brain being exercised that haven't been used in ages - and I like it!

Processing market photos
Monday is back to school and I'm a bit sad to lose all this time to myself to potter around and draw things and take photos and stuff, but I'm glad to see the kids again (I know, I know, a week into third term and I'll be saying the exact opposite) and my friends at work and to see everything come together with the exhibition in a few weeks time. I can't wait to see what the other artists have come up with and to celebrate all the hard work we've put into our projects. I'm thrilled to be a part of it.

Anyway, enough of all that - I've got a very eventful, non-creative afternoon ahead of me with the tax man and my cousin at the gym! Hooray for getting stuff done!

Staying alive

Stayin' Alive
Another month, another Made With Love Market, this time the theme was Disco and there were plenty of groovy moves on the dance floor. Particularly from the ladies above, Sarah, Michelle and Claire.

You can have a look at the whole photo set here, but in the meantime here are a couple of my favourites from the day.

Sunshine yellow lemons
Beautiful red waratahs
Mama Mia! Here I go again!
It was a beautifully sunny morning and you can just start to feel that spring has sprung. {I'll say that and there will be nothing but rain for the next fortnight, but it's sunny now and I live in hope it will stay that way for a little while yet.}

The market is going from strength to strength - If you are in the area and haven't been along, you really should take some time out of your Saturday to pop in and say hello - it's a great atmosphere and so much fun. Next month's market is a big one for everyone, it happens smack bang in the middle of Wynyard's Tulip Festival. It would definitely be a great market to come to if you haven't been before.

Which brings me to what's happening over the next few weeks for me: finishing up my projects for the Mad Hatter's Tea Party exhibition, making a short video of the girls dancing their hearts out at yesterday's market (oh, there's some gold there ladies, shiny sparkly gold) and going back to school. But, what I'm really excited about is feeling some sunshine on my face. Yay for spring!

a little mad

Preparing and painting
Not mad as in angry, by the way, but mad as in Hatters and mad as in manic. I've spent the first week of the school holidays getting ready for an exhibition I'm part of in October. The theme is 'Mad Hatters Tea Party' and I'm doing two projects. One using some of my photography and one using some of my drawings.

Many thanks to Michelle who has been patiently guiding me through the whole process - I've never been part of an exhibition before so it's all very new and a little bit scary. I've finally gotten past the panic stage though and now I'm full steam ahead. Now that I've finally figured out a cheap & creative way to present my photos - I don't want to give too much away at this stage, but let's just say there is a staple gun involved. (I loves me a staple gun.)

Also, plus, it was totes Michelle's idea for how to present my drawings. And I'll give you a clue below:

Yep, that's your hint.
If you want to see what I end up doing with these rather plain tea-towels, then you'll just have to come along to the exhibition at the Wonders of Wynyard Exhibition and Information Centre during the Tulip Festival in October! The exhibition will be held from the 7th - 30th of October.

Oh, and before I forget - it's market day this Saturday (Jiminy Crickets, that's tomorrow - how quickly did that go?!). The theme this month is Disco, so if you're feeling a bit of Saturday Night Fever coming on, make sure you drop in to 45 Jackson Street first and we'll take good care of you. The market starts and 9am and finishes at 1pm.

And now I'm off to go and get some more white paint all over my hands.

father's day luncheon

Mum and Dad
Just a quick Instagram from lunch yesterday for Father's Day.

We went to Bruce's and Lisa spoiled us all a bit. It was fantabulous. I bought Dad some chocolate coated almonds and a birthday card that played the sound of a kid doing armpit farts. We share a sophisticated sense of humour, Dad and I (and my brother and sister). Mum does the right thing and pretends it's inappropriate and not funny, but you can tell she thinks it is.

I also did that Facebook thing where you change your photo to one of your Dad. I used this one:

My sister, Dad and me
I showed it to Dad on my phone at lunch and the look on his face was priceless. My Dad's of the generation that don't really show emotion too often, but he broke out into a big grin and had a good old cackle. It meant a lot to see him happy like that. And I know it mean a lot to Mum too. I just wish more of the family could have been there.

And just to finish off, I should probably make you all aware that I am actually the favourite and I know this because Mum tells me that Dad used to give me lollies from the lolly jar even though it was nearly tea time and it would ruin my appetite. I mean, that says it all, right?

a bit naughty [shorts]

Brown paper packages...
The amazingly talented and awesome Rebecca over at naughty shorts has sent me something fabulous in the mail. Checkit.
Hanging around
A little while back I commented on a post on her blog and that simple act won me one of her gorgeous tea dresses.
Can't wait to wear it somewhere!
She also has an Etsy shop, which you can peruse at your leisure here. I seriously totally recommend you check it out - she is taking a bit of a break at the moment, but hey a girl can still look, right? Plus, also, if you are on Facebook, you can like her page here. And if you aren't, now you have another reason to join. For reals.

Thanks Rebecca, you've made my Spring-sunshiny-end-of-term-yay-it's-the-holidays day! :)
